Top Tips to help you keep those New Year resolutions.

If you’re struggling to keep your New Year fitness resolutions, or are in need of a bit of extra motivation, our Leisure Manager, Serina, is sharing her top tips for a new you for 2014.

1. Motivation follows action. Make workouts a regular part of your life, when you're feeling unmotivated, force yourself to get up, get into your workout clothes and out the door. Once you start moving the motivation will kick in!

2. Add intervals to your workouts. Study after study shows  that working past your comfort zone by varying the intensity of exercises, no matter what your fitness level is, can elevate your metabolism for up to 36 hours AFTER your workout; this extra boost can be what keeps you from putting on a few pounds even with some indulging!

3. Take Yoga or Pilates-style class to help de-stress. Increased levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) have been shown to add inches, and a few peaceful mantras might be just what the doctor ordered for mind, body and soul.

4. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. It's been said so many times, but it's so true. Often people think they're hungry when they're actually dehydrated. Drink 8 glasses of water each day; it’s good for you and will help you feel fuller. Ccoconut water is a close second because it helps to naturally replace electrolytes lost; it's low in calories and can help your skin glow.

5. Check out a new class. Get adventurous try a new activity every month to avoid boredom and add more variety to your fitness routine. Fitness can be a lot of fun, so think of new ways to add it to your life. Ask our Gym Team to show you some new routines to add to your fitness program.
