Fish for your supper! With a choice of picturesque lakes and conditions suitable for both novice & more experienced fishermen the Albury Estate is a perfect spot to while away a peaceful few hours fly fishing. The lakes are fed by several springs as well as the Tillingbourne River and are well stocked with rainbow trout from the estate fish farm. Full instruction and tackle is available if you are a beginner and looking to try a new sport. Bring your catch back with you and our chef will prepare your trout for supper or store in our fridge until you are ready to go home. Less than a 10 minute drive from the hotel.
The flagship garden of the RHS & one of the world's greatest gardens, Wisley really is a sight to behold in the summer months with a riot of colour and perfume. The Cottage Garden peaks in July with some incredible soft romantic planting whilst nearly 5,000 lavender and rosemary plants in large stripes carpet the Viewing Mount with amazing fragrance. Live at Wisley includes a poetry trail from 1 - 31 July plus there is live jazz on Saturdays until 31 July. There are various outdoor family theatre events over the summer too and the RHS Wisley Flower Show from 7 - 12 September. A 25 minute drive from the hotel.
The Abinger Cookery School will fire up your imagination with courses that are practical, inspiring & most importantly fun! The school makes good use of the fantastic Surrey Hills produce available right on our doorstep. Learn some new skills, brush up on some existing ones or become a pro on an advanced course. There are still some places available on their summer courses which include a very tempting Indian Cookery Day with Hari Ghotra. Or why not master the pasta basics or dive into a fish & seafood day or maybe learn how to make your own sushi or dim sum? Or fire up the barbeque and learn to barbeque like a chef on a Weber Grill Academy course. The choices are endless! Only 15 minutes from the hotel.
Nestled in a woodland valley near Ockley lies a sculpture garden unlike any other. Created over 35 years ago, The Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden exhibits an ever-changing collection of contemporary sculpture throughout the gardens. Surrounding a 15th century Grade II listed cottage, the grounds have been lovingly restored by owner & renowned landscape designer Anthony Paul. Using a palette of broadleaved, architectural plants, ponds& mature trees, Anthony and his wife Hannah have created a truly magical environment. Artists come from far & wide to exhibit each year & a plethora of materials, themes & ideas awaits visitors - some out in clear view & others cleverly nestled amongst the dramatic fauna. Brooklands has a host of events planned including a celebration of the 95th anniversary of the British Grand Prix on Saturday, 7th August and the Brooklands Motorcycle Show on Sunday, 15th August when the legacy of motorcycling at Brooklands will be celebrated alongside the best of today’s bikes & super-machines. Motorcycle enthusiasts, no matter what they ride or from what era, are all welcome. Sunday, 22nd August sees the ever popular New Year's Day Classic Gathering taking place for the first time as a summer event. A 30 minute drive from Barnett Hill.
The beautiful grounds of Guildford Cathedral will play host to The Luna Cinema with a crowd pleasing selection of classic movies to enjoy over the weekend including Bohemian Rhapsody, The Greatest Showman Sing Along and A Star is Born. Built in 1961, and the seat of the Bishop of Guildford, this imposing venue will provide a stunning backdrop for some unforgettable nights of cinema under the stars. Surround yourself in nature and take part in a relaxing activity for your mind & soul. Laura will guide you through the watercolour techniques and teach you how to paint with watercolours and you will leave with your very own painting. Join Lorraine at the picturesque Birtley Woodland Art Space and learn how to weave with willow to make some beautiful art pieces - sculptures you can be proud of. Join for a full or half day where you will be able to choose from a selection of items (large and small) to create and then take home with you at the end of the day. All the magic of the BIG screen with a classic a drive in movie experience. Loxwood drive-in movies combine the best of outdoor, high definition cinema screens along with crystal-clear sound, delivered through a dedicated FM transmission to your own in-car stereo system so you will see and hear every word of the film you have come to experience - and you will be in control of the volume and tone. This summer there is a diverse range of films including Rocket Man, Grease, The NoteBook and Pulp Fiction to name but a few. You can even order classic American food & drink delivered to your car. Listen to the Christian Prior Jazz Trio, who are steeped in the jazz tradition, but at the same play with a freedom & spontaneity that makes every performance unique. Expect to hear fresh original compositions alongside classics from the Great American Songbook and the jazz standard repertoire. The event takes place outside in the vineyard with doors opening at 5.30pm. Enjoy a stroll amongst the vines or relax at your table with a glass of bubbly and a picnic. The performance starts at 6.30pm and is expected to finish at around 8.30pm. There will be an interval of 30 minutes and Albury wine will be available to buy from a pop-up bar. Open from 10am - 4pm, the Cranleigh Surrey Hills artisan market will showcase an array of Surrey Hills Artisans, including local food, drink, arts and crafts. The Surrey Hills is home to an incredible community of artisans who keep traditional as well as modern artisan skills alive. Come and meet the makers as they share their passion, knowledge, skills and products. It's the perfect opportunity to browse amazing hand-made crafts, sample and purchase locally sourced food and a wide range of drinks including wine, gin and non alcoholic beverages.

Whether you're a novice who's yet to purchase their 1st barbeque or a more seasoned grill master, join one of our Weber courses at the Grill Academy and learn from the experts. In-depth tuition in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere will inspire confidence and enthusiasm so that anyone can easily expand their barbeque repertoire. Courses are hands on so you get to practice your new found skills and knowledge - with a range of courses to suit all levels on both charcoal and gas fired barbeques.
Some of the most familiar beauty spots in England are found within the Surrey Hills including Box Hill, Leith Hill and the Devil’s Punch Bowl. With extensive rights of way, open commons, sunken lanes & easy access it is the perfect place to enjoy the fresh air and outstanding scenery. There are so many stunning walks to choose from for all levels of ability and through all sorts of terrain. Our favourite is the Newlands Corner St Martha's Church walk, where you are afforded the most wonderful views across the hills from St Martha's.
Cycling is a great way to experience the Surrey Hills. The huge success of the 2012 London Olympics has seen a surge in cyclists and The Prudential Ride London - Surrey 100 carries on this Olympic legacy, inspiring amateur cyclists to take up the challenge and ride parts of this famous circuit. For those looking for more off-road action, the Surrey Hills offer a spectacular range of single track mountain bike trails through ancient woodland and taking in some of the highest points in Surrey. There are lots of different routes to choose from for all ability levels.
