Rolling lawns, fabulous follies, woodland, meadows and more - our 'back gardens' are rather special spots. Wrapping around our glorious country house hotels in the home counties, our gardens come to life in the summer months with picnicking, al fresco dining and more. Read on to discover what our secret gardens will offer this summer, and get ready to feel the grass beneath your feet and the sun on your skin.

Please note, for our picnic afternoon teas and garden visits, should the weather be against us you are welcome to take your picnic tea home to enjoy.

From June 18th - July 3rd

Garden Strolls & Picnic Lunches

Take a turn of our glorious 55 acres of grounds and pick a spot to settle down for a delightful picnic of afternoon tea treats. Between the 18th of June and our eventual 'proper' reopening, anticipated on the 4th of July, we're opening our gardens for self-guided tours with afternoon tea picnics, on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Each fifteen minutes from 11am till 5pm we'll be accepting up to 6 guests at a time for a three-hour visit to our beautiful grounds, with a delicious afternoon tea to enjoy where you settle. Until we reopen on the 4th of July, we ask that you bring your own blanket and make a convenience stop before you arrive, as our WCs will be closed. Dogs and little ones are of course very welcome.

Al Fresco Dining

From July 4th

Visit our socially-distanced terraces from July 4th to experience fine dining in the most glorious of settings. With views of the Parterres, Japanese bridge, Rose garden and fountain our south-facing terrace couldn't be more idyllic. Accompany that with our superb cuisine, from afternoon tea to our Estate Grill terrace menu and our exceptional service (observing of course all Covid-19 related precautions), where could be better to while away an afternoon...and perhaps the evening too?

Sitting pretty atop one of the famous Surrey Hills, Barnett Hill is surrounded by 26 acres of gorgeous gardens with woodlands galore to explore. Between the 18th of June and our eventual 'proper' reopening, anticipated on the 4th of July, we're throwing open the (figurative) doors to our gardens for self-guided tours with afternoon tea picnics, on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Each fifteen minutes from 11am till 5pm we'll be accepting up to six guests at a time for a two-hour visit to explore our gardens and woodland, with a delicious afternoon tea to enjoy where you settle. Until we reopen on the 4th of July the House will be closed, so do schedule in a pit-stop before you arrive and please bring your own blanket. Four-legged friends and little ones will be very welcome.

Head for the Hill from July 4th and grab a spot on the most sought after terrace in the Surrey Hills. With wrap-around terraces, gorgeous gardens and divine delights from the kitchen (and the bar!) where could be better to pitch up for a post lock-down treat. Pop the rosé and let the good times roll...

Holding court in 120 acres of rolling Sussex countryside, Alexander House is a jewel of a Jacobean manor. Come and explore our meadows, woodland and grounds and enjoy a stroll before pitching up for a delightful picnic of afternoon tea treats. Between the 18th of June and our eventual 'proper' reopening, anticipated on the 4th of July, we're welcoming guests to our grounds for some forest-bathing and a stroll with afternoon tea picnics, on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Each fifteen minutes from 11am till 5pm we'll be accepting up to six guests at a time for a two-hour visit to explore our grounds and woodland, with a delicious afternoon tea to enjoy where you settle. Until we reopen on the 4th of July the House and WCs will be closed, so please be prepared and please bring your own blanket. Four-legged friends and little ones very welcome.

With our stunning south-facing terrace, and two further beautiful patios, from July 4th we'll we welcoming you back to enjoy a (socially-distanced of course) afternoon tea al fresco, or perhaps a long lunch from our rosette-awarded kitchens, served by our wonderful team. Celebrate our reopening and enjoy the summer sun in style - glass of champagne? Don't mind if we do!

Soak up the sun and pop a cork or two - we're taking bookings from July 4th so do come and visit us for a post lock-down indulgence. Enjoy our 2-AA rosette cuisine from the RG's kitchen or a sweet treat with our al fresco afternoon tea - or even a BBQ!
